Richard Butler – Bio

Richard Butler
Born June 5, 1956
He came to prominence in the early 1980s as lead singer of the rock band the Psychedelic Furs and went on to found the alternative rock band Love Spit Love in the early 1990s, during a hiatus of the Psychedelic Furs. Butler began his solo career in 2006, while still a member of the Psychedelic Furs, releasing the album Richard Butler.

Despite your musical tastes, you are probably familiar with a few of his songs done with his first band, “The Psychedelic Furs,” including “Pretty In Pink,” “Love My Way,” “The Ghost In You”, and “Heaven,” to name just a few.

I have had the incredible pleasure of knowing Richard Butler, and his band mates, “The Psychedelic Furs,” for over thirty (30) years now.

Lastly, and I would be completely remiss at not mentioning this – The Psychedelic Furs start their new tour this Tuesday, April 19, 2011.

It is the thirtieth (30th) anniversary of their critically acclaimed album, “Talk Talk Talk.”

As is stated on their website, “The Psychedelic Furs are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of “Talk Talk Talk” by performing the album in it’s entirety during a very limited run of live shows!!

The Furs will do two sets each night, “Talk Talk Talk” from beginning to end, followed by a set of other songs chosen from throughout the band’s entire career.

This is very likely the final opportunity you will ever get to see the band perform “Talk Talk Talk” live.”

You may also be familiar with a few of his songs done with his second band, “Love Spit Love, including “How Soon Is Now?” (the theme song for the show, “The Charmed” and originally done by “The Smiths”) and “Am I Wrong” (featured in the movie, “Angus”).

I have seen him “live” approximately seventy (70) times (as of the date of this post), whether those shows were as the leader of “The Psychedelic Furs,” as the leader of “Love Spit Love,” as a Solo Artist, or at one of his numerous art gallery showings.
