“Boom Boom Boom” – Bio

Solibury Hill
Released 1977
Peter Brian Gabriel – English singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame as the original lead singer and flautist of the progressive rock band Genesis.

“Boom Boom Boom” – Dedication

… this post is dedicated jabbling, long walks to nowhere merely just to be with someone and nothing more, and having the courage to follow your heart irrespective of where you may go…

“Boom Boom Boom” – Questions

… I have been blogging for over a decade now …

… many have read my posts …

… most know my mania and folly …

… I blog about legal updates …

… I blog about my gig in estate law …

… The best part of my gig

… Is getting to meet people …

… And getting to know them …

… The one immutable fact I know …

… As well as your God …

… and a handful of self-actualized others …

… Is that we are all broken …

… We are all lonely …

… We are all insecure …

… We have all been to hell and back …

… Yet – no one talks about these things …

… They’d rather just go to the mall …

… They’d rather just watch reality tv …

… Ostriches and crabs …

… (that’s a metaphor) …

… ab initio – ad infinitum – ad nauseam …

… you’ll need “Google Latin” for that one …

“Boom Boom Boom” – Answers

… I know the reasons why …

… It’s due to embarrassment …

… Its due to ignorance …

… It’s due to selfishness …

… It’s due to narcissism

… (sorry – look it up) …

… It’s due to solipsism

… (yeah – keep the browser open) …

… It’s due to egocentrism …

… (sorry – I graduated from 3rd grade) …

… It’s due to all of these things and more …

… But – there are very simple answers …

… Most – however – don’t like simple answers …

… there are simple ways to garnish the courage ..

… there are simple ways to throw away old things …

… there are simple ways to get through things …

… my brother says – “life is hard – get a helmet” …

… That’s simple …

… so – back to why I am writing this …

… I have already addressed this topic is many posts …

… and the list goes on …

“Boom Boom Boom” – Meaning

… Peter Gabriel was in the band Genesis …

… He was disillusioned …

… He was unhappy for many reasons …

… he was thinking of leaving the band …

… And starting a solo career …

… He did end up leaving Genesis …

… and launched a successful solo career …

… “Solsbury Hill” was his first single …

wayne-pa-probate-lawyers-trust-living-boom-boom-boom-3

… He has had a magnificent solo career …

… I think it means that Peter had the simple answer …

… He had the courage to let go of the past …

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
Had to listen, had no choice

I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination

My heart going boom, boom, boom
“Son”, he said, “grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”

wayne-pa-probate-lawyers-trust-living-boom-boom-boom-2

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut
‘Til I thought of what I’ll say
Which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery

My heart going boom, boom, boom
Hey – he said, “grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”

When illusion spin her net
I’m never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me

Today I don’t need a replacement
I’ll tell them what the smile on my face meant

My heart going boom, boom, boom
“Hey”, I said, “you can keep my things, they’ve come to take me home”

“Boom Boom Boom” – Note To Self

… [Peter] Gabriel has said of the song’s meaning, that “It’s about being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get … It’s about letting go.” …

… His former bandmate Tony Banks acknowledges that the song reflects Gabriel’s decision to break ties with Genesis, but it can also be applied in a broader sense to situations of letting go in general …

… I admire Peter Gabriel for doing this …

… He had the determination to let go …

… He had the wisdom to know it may fail …

… He had the strength to make it happen …

… this post was actually directed straight at me – to make me remember that rebuilding a life takes time – to make me remember that those who come and go are meant to come and go – and to make me remember that I have no control over who stays and who goes (but I can hope) …
