“Wish You Were Here” – Tribute

“Wish You Were Here” is the ninth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is a tribute to Syd Barrett.

Roger Waters stated that “[he was] very sad about Syd. Of course he was important and the band would never have started without him because he was writing all the material.

It couldn’t have happened without him but on the other hand it couldn’t have gone on with him.”

“Wish You Were Here” – Live 8 Reunion

On 2 July 2005, Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright performed together as Pink Floyd for the first time in more than 24 years, at the Live 8 concert in London’s Hyde Park.

At the beginning of their performance, Waters told the audience:

[It is] quite emotional, standing up here with these three guys after all these years, standing to be counted with the rest of you … we’re doing this for everyone who’s not here, and particularly of course for Syd.
